I love fishing because it is both fun and educational. It helps strengthen my willpower. Last Sunday, my friend He Ping and I went fishing together. We set out early in the morning. After riding our bikes for three hours, we reached the outskirts of Hefei and found a small stream. The water was crystal clear, and you could see fish swimming around. The grassy banks were dotted with buttercups, and gentle slopes led down to the water. It was a perfect spot for fishing.
Soon, we were all set. We put bait on the hooks and dropped them into the stream, sitting patiently with our rods in hand. An hour went by, but I hadn’t caught a single fish. I lifted my rod again and again, feeling disappointed each time since there was nothing on the hook. Meanwhile, He Ping, on the other side of the stream, had caught several fish, including one quite large one.
"Why do you catch fish so easily, while it’s so hard for me?" I asked him.
"It’s simple. You just need to be patient," He Ping replied. "Wait until the float completely sinks before lifting the rod. I’m sure you’ll have a fish on the hook then."
After a while, the floats started moving. I held my breath and waited. Then they stopped again. "Come on, dear fish, come to my hook," I whispered to myself. Suddenly, the floats swung inward and sank quickly. At that exact moment, I pulled up my rod. To my joy, I had caught a fish! Smiling, I carefully took it off the hook.
This experience taught me an important lesson: perseverance is key to achieving success. This is especially true for young people, who often lack this quality.
